These tube descriptions now include the results of the listening test we performed with Roman Klun, a recording engineer and producer who has worked with artists such as Sarah McLachlan and the Boomers. He listened to all our KT88 and 6550 types with his own reference recording and gave us his observations.

The amplifier we use for listening tests is from Quicksilver Audio and is perfect for comparing many different types of tubes. The speakers we are using are Vandersteen 2Ce's.

Electro-Harmonix 6550

This is the latest 6550EH tube for home audio amps from Electro-Harmonix. The Electro Harmonix 6550-EH tubes have excellent linearity, power handling capacity and heat dissipation.

JAN-GE 6550A

The Legendary 6550A tube in original boxes made by General Electric in Owensboro, Kentucky. Triple getter in straight glass with metal bases. A balanced tube known for their incredible bottom end and rich mids.

JJ 6550

The JJ 6550 tube can be used in any 6550 tube amp. The large plates allow for more efficient cooling and headroom. Whether your application is a hifi amp, guitar, or bass amp, the JJ 6550 tube will be up to the job.

NOS Tung-Sol 6550 (USA)

This NOS Tungsol 6550 tube was made in the USA and is considered by many to be the best 6550 tube ever made. We have matched pairs and quartets of these treasured tubes in stock. This Tung-Sol 6550 batch was made in the mid 1970's. We received these tubes in bulk packs so we have boxed them here in generic boxes.

Sovtek 6550WE

From our 6550 tube type listening test:
"Emphasis on the Sovtek 6550WE can be heard in the lower bass and highest highs. At times the response is a little sluggish because of its compression factor with a fast attack and slow release. When this 6550-WE tube is pushed, it hotspots in the upper midrange, which will really bring out the crunchy guitars in rock music."

Svetlana 6550C

The Svetlana 6550C tube is a tube manufactured at the New Sensor Corp. owned Xpo-Pul factory (also known as Reflektor) in Saratov, Russia. Use it to replace all other 6550 tubes and KT88 tubes.

Tung-Sol 6550 Reissue

The new Tung-Sol 6550 has been closely constructed to the original specifications of the triple getter, 3-hole plate version.

Tonally, this 6550 tube has a smooth, extended high end, slightly warm midrange with great imaging, and a tight bottom end.

Winged "C" (SED) 6550C

The Winged "C" (SED) 6550C is an ideal replacement for amplifiers with the GE 6550A tube.
